Coins and medals are sold at so much per lot, and no lot will be sepa- rated. The auctioneer will accept an advance of 1 cent up to 50c., then 5c. up to $2.50, when 10c. advance must be bid up to $10, when no advance under 25 cents will be accepted. You can bid anything up to 50c., after that the bid must be 55c. or 60c. Such offers as 5lc., $1.01, etc., are unavailable.
Auction sales are strictly for cash. Parties unknown to me, and bidding for the first time, must give bank or other reliable reference.
Forward your bids as early as possible, as thousands of bids have to be entered. Do not make ridiculously low bids, such as 10 and léc. on foreign silver coins worth several times over as bullion. Write your bids plainly, with a pen if practicable. I have taken special pains to carefully and fairly de- scribe each lot.
Where the number of pieces in a lot is not given after the description, there is but one piece in the lot.
The coins, etc., in each lot are different unless otherwise described.

ander the Great, found in an old earthen pot, in the side of an
ancient well, near Luxor.
Many different mint marks and
cities were represented. This lot has not been offered before, and is the final offering of these interesting pieces.

Rare Confederate Naval Flag. Very large. Size 8 ft. 7 in. x 2 ft. 2in. Was the property of an officer on a Federal gunboat during the Red River campaign in the Civil War. It was captured from the Confede- rate gunboat ‘‘ Thomas Sug” about the time the ram Arkansas ran the gauntlet of Porter’s fleet and was afterwards sunk by the U.S. 8. 8S. Essex. The flag is well preserved, and has several bullet holes.
1804. Rare U. 8. Dime. Date is fine and bold. Over half of milling shows at edge on obverse. The piece has several minute dents, but is a very good speci- men of this rarest date. Very rare.

Barring a few minute nicks on obverse and reverse, this is a fine, sharp specimen, with lettering, etc., very strong.
A piece of excessive rarity. I have looked through many of the old auction catalogues and find no record of its having ever been offered at auction sale. If it was ever offered, which is very doubtful, it was not recently. This is one of the rarest prizes of the pioneer gold issues of our country. This specimen was received within the past month from the United States of Colombia.

Has been in possession of one fam- ily for over sixty years. A slightly different variety of this coin brought $106 last October.
Souvenir silver soup ladle, with gold impression in bowl, from the original die of the octagonal $50 gold slug of 1852, 900 fineness, Augustus Humbert. A Cali- fornia jeweler contemplated striking a large number of these spoons, but the fire destroyed his spoons and the original dies of these coins. After the fire, only three of the spoons were found in his safe. <A re- markable relic. Impression of die is perfectly sharp.
